And yes, there was a little discussion about a particularly successful Birkenstock shopping trip.

Our Favorite Salado Holiday Traditions

Hear Mallory and Becky talk about local shopping, upcoming festivals and why the Salado Christmas Stroll deserves a place on your calendar.

Fall Shopping in Downtown Salado

Shopping local is practically a recreational sport for Mallory and Becky. During the podcast, the ladies discuss their latest shopping trip to Christy’s of Salado, where Mallory scored two pairs of Birkenstocks for under $100. She also officially retired her beloved Walmart alternatives, affectionately called her “Wal-enstocks.”

Whether you’re shopping for seasonal decor, gifts or something new for your wardrobe, exploring Salado’s independently owned boutiques is a fun way to spend an afternoon. One of the advantages of shopping in the Village is that you can make a whole day of it. Grab lunch, explore the shops and enjoy the historic downtown area.

Oktoberfest at Barrow Brewing

Salado’s fall calendar includes Oktoberfest at Barrow Brewing Company. For 2026, the brewery has scheduled Oktoberfest celebrations every Saturday from September 26 through October 31. Visitors can expect German-inspired food, music, games and locally brewed craft beer. It’s a great opportunity to spend time with friends while enjoying one of Salado’s local businesses.

The Scottish Highland Games

Another fall tradition Mallory and Becky discuss is the Scottish Gathering and Highland Games. Salado’s Scottish heritage is an important part of the community’s identity, and the event brings visitors together to celebrate Scottish culture and traditions. Whether you’re interested in Highland athletics, music or simply enjoying a local festival, it’s an event worth exploring.

Check the Salado Chamber of Commerce  for current event details before planning your visit.

The Salado Christmas Stroll

If there’s one Salado tradition Becky doesn’t want you to miss, it’s the Christmas Stroll. The Salado Christmas Stroll traditionally takes place during the first two weekends in December, with holiday shopping, entertainment and a festive atmosphere throughout the Village. Mallory’s  advice during the podcast is pretty straightforward:

“If you have not been to the stroll, suggest that you go get your butt at the stroll.”

It’s one of those events that makes the holiday season feel a little more special. Visitors can enjoy exploring downtown Salado, shopping for Christmas gifts and spending an evening with family or friends. For anyone considering relocating to Salado, community events like the Christmas Stroll also offer a chance to experience the Village beyond simply touring homes.

Experience Salado for Yourself

There’s more to choosing a place to live than finding the right floor plan. Getting to know the community, supporting local businesses and finding your favorite traditions are all part of making somewhere feel like home.
